This project is a small 7-spread booklet detailing some of the ancient philosophers and mathematicians that shaped our modern understanding of astronomy.
This design took me down a bunch of rabbit holes. I researched ancient philosophy, alchemical theory, elemental physics models, intricate mechanical construction, and a whole bunch of other stuff that didn't end up in the final booklet.
I initially approached this design with an idea of how I wanted it to look, it was going to take more inspiration from punk designs combined with historical manuscripts, but in the process of learning about the amount of careful consideration that ancient astronomers put into their craft, I gained a greater insight and appreciation for the subject.
The design that I landed on is much more contemporary and geometric, but keeps those historic illustration styles to pay homage to the traditional roots of the subject. I think that there's a lot to learn from the thought processes of historic minds, even if they turned out to be wrong, and the process of this project kick-started my fascination with the subject.
