I created this piece in tribute to one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite musical artists. Watsky's Brave New World is a wonderfully evocative piece of biting satire about the state of the world, full of poignant politically-charged messages and blink-and-you'll-miss-it wordplay.
This project was an entry-point for motion design for me, I hadn't touched a motion program before this one, so there was a lot of experimentation here. It was a great exercise in creating a setting I wanted to convey first, and then problem-solving to bring that setting to life.
These are some of my favorite stills from the video. My goal in working on this project was to join Watsky's vocals with a video that matches their speed and power, and in doing so I created some pretty rad collage-like imagescapes. I designed this short lyric video in After Effects entirely out of text and flat background color.
